LIFEGroups at Lilburn Alliance Church are small groups dedicated to 'developing fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ'; to KATARTISMOS.
What is KATARTISMOS? The Greek word used in Ephesians 4:12-16 meaning to "prepare, equip, restore, put in order, clean, mend, train, complete what is lacking."
The same word is used in Mark 1:19, "He saw James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets."
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:42
Let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching." Hebrews 10:24
What is a LIFEGroup? 8-12 people who consistently gather together, usually in a home setting, to share their lives, to discuss how the Bible applies to their lives, and to pray for each other. They provide an environment of support, acceptance and encouragement. Through LIFEGroups, people are connected to one another, to Christ and to LAC.
Eight Characteristics of LAC LIFEGroups
1. Friendship
In an impersonal world, LIFEGroups allow us to develop genuine love for one another. It's a strong team situation, one where we are able to share our struggles and dreams and where we will be accepted, supported an prayed for.
2. Bible Application
Rather than theory, our Bible study focuses on life application in everyday situations.
3. Sharing Experiences
As people share their struggles and their victories with one another, they get involved in praying for each other and helping each other. This support builds faith and motivates each of the members of the group to further their own growth and prayer life.
4. Encouragement
Where can people go when they are discouraged? At LAC, they go to their LIFEGroups.
5. Non-Threatening Friendship Evangelism
Our LIFEGroups are "open groups" and at every meeting there is an "empty chair". Members are continually encouraged to bring their friends and neighbors to their group meetings.
6. Discipleship and Spiritual Growth
In LIFEGroups, new converts are nurtured in their Christian walk and led to become followers of Christ.
7. Encounter with God
Each time a LIFEGroup meets it allows opportunity to invite the Manifest Presence of the Living God into an upper room enviorment creating intimacy between the creator and the created.
8. Brevity
Because metro Atlanta is fast paced, and because most of our people live under time pressure, we have designed our groups to last 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
